The University of Texas System to Host AI Symposium in Health Care

Leaders from all UT health institutions and medical schools to convene at UT Southwestern

The University of Texas System will host its first-ever artificial intelligence (AI) Symposium in Health Care on May 30-31 at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. This event will bring together experts in artificial intelligence from across the UT System’s broad health care enterprise to explore the emergence of AI as it begins to reshape health care and revolutionize everything from scientific discovery and drug development to diagnosis and treatment to patient care and administrative processes.

The UT System is committed to harnessing AI’s potential while ensuring its ethical and responsible use. Participating panelists and speakers represent all UT health institutions and all of its seven medical schools throughout Texas. State lawmakers will also participate in conversations about best approaches to regulating AI as the emerging technology continues to advance.

About the University of Texas System Health Enterprise

The University of Texas System health enterprise is composed of five health institutions, seven medical schools, 10 nursing schools, four schools of public health, three dental schools, three pharmacy schools, and schools of biomedical informatics and podiatry. UT institutions educate more than one-half of the state’s health care professionals and award about 60% of the state's professional medical degrees annually. In FY 2023, UT health institutions accounted for 62 percent of UT System’s $4.3 billion research expenditures, significantly contributing to the UT System’s #1 ranking in Texas and #2 nationally for both total and federal research expenditures across its 14 institutions. The combined efforts of UT-owned and affiliated hospitals and clinics resulted in 10.8 million outpatient visits and more than 2.1 million hospital days in 2023.
