Community Advisory Panel (CAP)
In 2015, UTSW established the Community Advisory Panel (CAP) as a resource for campus researchers for soliciting patient and community-stakeholder engagement in their projects.
The CAP is a group of diverse community, patient, and caregiver stakeholders who provide perspectives, expertise, and experience in accessing community health care and social services, especially in communities such as those served by Dallas County’s integrated safety-net system, Parkland Health. The CAP seeks to represent ideas and experiences that reflect diversity across race, culture, age, and health care access.
The CAP helps researchers learn about community needs and priorities and to inform study design, implementation, and interpretation of results from the client or patient perspective. Meetings are held at least quarterly, but often monthly to accommodate demand. The CAP has advised researchers on a broad range of topics, including:
