Medical Student and Resident Education
Fourth-Year Medical Students
Fourth-year medical students can spend a four-week rotation on the Pediatric Renal Service. They learn renal physiology, fluids and electrolyte therapy, evaluation and treatment of hematuria, proteinuria, and chronic and acute renal failure. Students spend their mornings in the inpatient service evaluating consults and their afternoons in the outpatient renal clinic. Students are encouraged to attend the renal, clinical, and physiology conferences while on their elective.
Pediatric Residents
Pediatric residents can spend a two- to four-week rotation on the Renal Service. The goal of this elective is to provide an advanced education in renal physiology, fluids and electrolyte therapy, evaluation and treatment of hematuria, proteinuria, and chronic and acute renal failure.
Residents can elect to spend their mornings in the inpatient service evaluating consults, their afternoons in the outpatient renal clinic, or spend their entire elective in the renal clinic.
