Core Facilities
The Division of Cardiology works from a base in the Simmons Biomedical Research Building on UT Southwestern's North Campus. The basic laboratories occupy about 30,000 square feet of research and office space. Fourteen laboratories are equipped to perform cutting-edge investigation utilizing molecular and cellular approaches.
In Clinical Genetics, the Eugene McDermott Center for Human Growth and Development provides expertise and resources for both clinicians and basic scientists to identify genes and sequence variation contributing to human diseases and traits.
The Parkland–UT Southwestern Center for Clinical Innovation focuses on evidence-based approaches to improving the quality and efficiency of care in the Parkland Health & Hospital System, with an emphasis on harnessing/leveraging medical information technologies.
The Division of Hematology/Oncology’s clinical research program is closely coordinated with the Clinical Research Office of the Harold C. Simmons Cancer Center. Basic research in the Division is largely conducted within the Hamon Center for Therapeutic Oncology Research.
The Division of Infectious Diseases offers inpatient and outpatient consultation services at several different sites, including Parkland Memorial Hospital, the Dallas Veterans Affairs Medical Center, William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, Zale Lipshy Pavilion—William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, the James. W. Aston Ambulatory Care Center, and the Amelia Court HIV Clinic.
Studies in the Nephrology Division are performed in 13,000 square feet of office and laboratory space.
In the Rheumatic Diseases Division, the Mohan Laboratory is dedicated to the study and cure of systemic lupus erythematosus (lupus), an autoimmune disease that’s not yet completely understood. The research projects at the lab focus on discovering what makes some people genetically more likely to develop lupus.
