Engagement Surveys FAQ
Why are we being asked to take employee engagement surveys?
Your confidential responses to a variety of questions, ranging from your happiness on the job and confidence in institutional leadership to your ability to strike a work-life balance, inform what is working well at UT Southwestern and where we should focus our efforts moving forward. Your feedback will help us identify opportunities to improve our work environment, culture, and community to help you excel, while also ensuring that we consistently deliver the very best care our patients deserve.
What is the difference between the VIP survey and the SCORE survey?
The Values in Practice (VIP) survey, administered by a third-party survey vendor, Glint, has been used historically at UT Southwestern. It remains an important vehicle for staff to confidentially share experiences and insights. Your responses inform how we have progressed as an institution over the past year, and also pinpoint where we still have room for improvement in the year ahead.
The new SCORE (Safety, Communication, Operational Risk, Resiliency/Burnout, and Engagement) survey, administered by Vizient, will help us evaluate the quality of our health system and, in particular, whether it supports safe care and a safe working environment. The SCORE survey also will serve as a foundation for a broader effort to drive us collectively to be a High Reliability Organization, in which we achieve the best results for our patients and the best working environment for our employees.
Do I need to take both the VIP and SCORE surveys?
No. No one should need to take both surveys. Some nonfaculty and nonclinical employees will take the VIP employee engagement survey.
The SCORE survey is geared toward employees and faculty who work in clinical roles and those who support clinical areas (such as Human Resources, Information Resources, etc.), as well as individuals who interact closely with them.
How long will it take to complete the survey?
The VIP survey will take about 3 to 5 minutes; the SCORE survey should take around 10 to 15 minutes to complete.
Are my answers confidential?
Yes, all survey answers are confidential, so please be as candid as possible.
How will I know which survey to take?
You will be sent a personal link to only the survey that applies to you. If you are taking the VIP survey, you will receive an email invitation from Glint with the subject line “UT Southwestern values your feedback.” If you are taking the SCORE survey, you will receive an email invitation from Vizient Safe and Reliable Healthcare Surveys with the same subject line (“UT Southwestern values your feedback”).
As a faculty member who is part of many departments/teams, which should I consider when filling out my survey?
Please provide feedback regarding the clinical environment in which you spend the majority of your time.
Will employees hired after the survey started receive a link to take the survey?
No. The survey only includes individuals hired prior to the survey launch date.
What should I do if I have not received a link to take my survey?
Please do the following:
- Search your inbox for an email with the subject line: “UT Southwestern values your feedback.”
- Check your Junk Email or Deleted Items folders. (Some people have a rule on their inbox that automatically sends external emails to their Deleted Items folder.)
When is the survey deadline?
Your survey link will be emailed to you on Sept. 16, and you have until Oct. 13 to complete it.
How will the survey results be disseminated?
In the weeks following the survey, leaders will be scheduled for training sessions to help them understand the results and effectively communicate them to their teams.
How will comments from the survey be shared?
Comments will be made available after the survey has closed. These comments will be de-identified and shared discreetly with leaders at the Director level and above. Training will be required to receive these comments to ensure confidentiality and appropriate handling of the feedback.
Will leaders be expected to develop action plans based on the results?
Yes. Leaders will be asked to use the feedback for action planning. More information will be provided over the next few weeks with regard to timing and details.
