We are investigating how fundamental cellular processes are coordinated with metabolism and the metabolic state of the cell. We use the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae for many of our studies to discover fundamental regulatory principles, but are also expanding some of our findings to mammalian systems. Our research has begun to show that small molecule metabolites play very underappreciated roles in the regulation of cell growth and homeostasis. The influence and importance of the metabolic state on cell regulation are far too often overlooked; we aim to decipher these very mechanisms.
