In December, residency program director Kareem AbdelFattah, M.D., invited Julie Freischlag, M.D., to be the guest speaker at a breakfast for Department of Surgery female residents, fellows, and junior faculty.

Following on the heels of the formation of the UT Southwestern Association of Women Surgeons and a well-attended breakfast featuring guest speaker Julie Freischlag, M.D. – championed and coordinated by residency program director Kareem AbdelFattah, M.D. – for the female residents, fellows, and junior faculty, the Department of Surgery will be hosting the Society of Surgical Chairs (SSC) Women’s Committee spring leadership meeting in April.

The goal of the spring leadership meeting is, to paraphrase the organization’s mission, to advance the leadership and impact of women in academic surgery. The SSC Women’s Committee is composed of women chairs of surgery in the U.S. and Canada and is committed to advancing professional development and success of women in academic surgery and enriching diversity and achieving gender equity as leaders in surgery.

We look forward to hosting the members of the SSC.
