Pancreatic Cancer Patient Summit

Pancreatic Cancer Patient Summit
The 2019 Pancreatic Patient Care Summit took place in January at Clements University Hospital.

The third annual Pancreatic Patient Summit is establishing itself as a regular and anticipated event for UT Southwestern. The summit provides an opportunity for patients who have been affected by or are living with pancreatic cancer to learn about disease management from the experts. Over the years, the patient summit has been an ideal opportunity for patients to learn about prevention, treatment options, supportive care, and promising clinical trials from leading pancreatic cancer clinicians.

The Pancreatic Cancer Patient Summit is cohosted by the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN). PanCAN’s Chief Chief Medical Officer, Victoria Manax Rutson, M.D., was a speaker this year. Chief of Surgical Oncology John Mansour, M.D., coordinated the event and led the panel discussions.

Other discussions included:

  • “Fighting Back: Pancreatic Cancer and the Immune System"
  • “Getting Ready for the Robot: Pancreatic Cancer and Robotic Surgery"
  • "Find out what to expect before – and after – surgery”
  • “Food for Thought: Your Nutrition Questions Answered”
  • “Surviving Pancreatic Cancer: What’s Next?”
  • Additional panel discussions on multidisciplinary care

This annual patient summit allows patients to connect with other survivors and have their questions answered by a team of experts.

The summit was held in William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital.
