Parkland Health Neuro Intensive Care Unit
Parkland Health was certified as a Level 1 Trauma Center in 1983, the first hospital in Texas to achieve this status. It is also a Comprehensive Stroke Center. The Neuro ICU at the new Parkland Health opened in November 2015. Like its counterpart at the Clements University Hospital, the Parkland Neuro ICU is a modern ICU with 12 beds, equipped with the latest technology including the ability to continuously monitor electrical activity via multimodality monitoring, pressure, temperature, and oxygenation of the brain, which is critical for patients with traumatic brain injury. EEG monitoring capability is present in every ICU room. Our patients can be enrolled in NIH-sponsored research studies aimed at discovering novel ways to treat brain injury and improve outcomes.
Multidisciplinary and patient-centered care are the guiding principles of care, and the Neuro ICU team works in tandem with physicians from Neurosurgery and Vascular Neurology.
