Radiologically Isolated Syndrome (RIS) Clinic
Darin Okuda, M.D., known internationally for identifying Radiologically Isolated Syndrome (RIS), established the RIS Consortium (RISC) in 2009. RISC is a multinational effort that involves collaborations with over five countries.
What we do:
We provide comprehensive clinical assessments and individual treatment plans to patients referred to us from all over the world.
The radiologically isolated syndrome (RIS) is characterized by highly suspicious autoimmune inflammatory demyelination but lacks symptoms typically associated with multiple sclerosis (MS). The "Okuda Criteria" describes the original clinical and imaging characteristics necessary for the accurate classification of individuals with the preclinical form of MS.
Patients can participate in research projects led by Dr. Okuda. RISC expanded the scope of RIS studies in children and identified that adult subjects with RIS may also develop primary progressive multiple sclerosis. They modified the existing RIS criteria to better identify individuals at risk for RIS.
