Multidisciplinary Ataxia Clinic – an Ataxia Center of Excellence

Our clinic is recognized by the National Ataxia Foundation for providing comprehensive care for and services to individuals affected by ataxia and their families.

Our team comprises of ataxia faculty, allied health professionals, nursing staff, and a research coordinator.

What we do
Our team conducts extensive basic and clinical research to understand the mechanisms and genetic basis behind ataxia. Beyond conducting clinical trials, UT Southwestern Medical Center is part of a multi-institutional, longitudinal, observational study of individuals with inherited ataxia. Development of therapy for cerebellar disorders is an important endeavor for the Ataxia Program. With six faculty studying various aspects of cerebellar impairment, we have the largest group of cerebellar researchers within a movement disorders section in the country. Our goal is to provide patients with sufficient information to ensure that they understand what the future holds for them, and what approaches might be most useful (nonpharmacological and pharmacological) to counter symptoms of the disease.
