Pediatric to Adult Transition Clinic
Transition care epilepsy is a unique field of epilepsy that deals with the transition of complex epilepsy patients from pediatric to adult care.
Our multidisciplinary team is directed by Irfan Sheikh, M.D., at Parkland Health.
What we do
Inadequate care during the transition phase can affect long-term medical and psychological outcomes. The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center’s new comprehensive transitional care clinic emphasizes the care of complex epilepsy syndromes, particularly the Tuberous Sclerosis Complex.
Collaborations
We host quarterly transitional care epilepsy conferences with collaborative case discussions between adult and pediatric epileptologists. There is coordinated integrated care across multiple specialties, including neurology, neurosurgery, nephrology, pulmonology, cardiology, dermatology, psychiatry, oncology, and genetics.
