Global Health: Bahir Dar Outreach for Neurology Education (BORNE) Initiative
BORNE founder, Mehari Gebreyohanns, M.D., has established a formal partnership between UT Southwestern and Bahir Dar University Hospital in Ethiopia.
What we do
BORNE’s primary focus is on advancing neurology care for the Ethiopian community through education in emergency medicine, internal medicine, and physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists. Dr. Gebreyohanns, accompanied by a team of faculty and residents, leads an annual two-day symposium at the Bahir Dar University Hospital. This initiative has resulted in the development of specialized stroke care units, enhanced patient education, and the addition of a dedicated neurologist to Bahir Dar’s staff.
