Ray Fowler, M.D.

Division Chief, Emergency Medical Services

Emergency Medical Services addresses every medical and trauma emergency that happens to people at any time in any location. We have the honor of overseeing this critical public health issue for UT Southwestern.

Our Work

Our work represents some of the most experienced minds in our specialty – physicians, medical directors, paramedics, researchers, and EMTs. We continually refine the standard of care we provide through clinical practice, scientific study, and organized research, pushing the boundaries of medicine to improve the outcomes for those we serve.

Our Faculty

The EMS Division faculty have been assembled through a variety of measures; by rigorous interviews, as outstanding residents who have stayed on as faculty, and as EMS fellows recruited from across the nation.

These distinguished physicians and educators lead practical experiences and formal training of the medical, operational, and administrative aspects of EMS medicine. Their clinical practice and teaching encompass the study of Emergency Medical Services medicine in urban, suburban, and rural systems.

In the Community

Our division coordinates prehospital emergency medical services for over 2 million people in the Dallas area in partnership with Parkland Hospital through the BioTel EMS System. This system encompasses both the online medical control communications network and the moment-to-moment medical direction for the EMT agencies that use it. The EMS system in Dallas is one of the largest in the nation, and we respond to over 300,000 EMS emergency calls each year.
