Background and family: I was born and raised in the Houston suburb of Pasadena, Texas. My parents, Susan and Joe Miller, have supported me tremendously throughout my journey to becoming a physician.
What led to your career path: Growing up, my natural curiosity drove me toward teaching, a talent I discovered during college while tutoring in organic chemistry. As I progressed through medical school, I realized that internal medicine offered the perfect blend of patient care and educational opportunities. This understanding, coupled with my passion for teaching and interest in helping others, led me to choose internal medicine as my specialty.
College: I graduated from Baylor University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in biology, summa cum laude. I was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.
UTSW activities: I am a member of the PRIDE organization and help with Pride Month activities. I am also a UTSW Academic Colleges peer mentor, coaching first- and second-year medical students and teaching physical exam skills. I have worked on a quality improvement project at Parkland Memorial Hospital for HIV screening that led to a first-author publication. I am also a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
Surprising fact: I enjoy French pastry making, especially macarons.
Future plans: The next step in my educational journey is an internal medicine residency here at UT Southwestern. I am considering a subspecialty in infectious diseases.
About the award: The award recognizes graduating medical students who have made outstanding contributions to serve fellow medical students in need of academic assistance.
