On June 15, UT Southwestern President Dr. Daniel K. Podolsky announced the opening of nominations for the third annual Leaders in Clinical Excellence Awards, designed to honor faculty who embody the very best in clinical and institutional excellence.

Last year, the awards program included a prestigious addition – the Patricia and William L. Watson Jr., M.D. Award for Excellence in Clinical Medicine.

The Watson Award, the institution’s highest honor for clinical excellence, was established in 2009 through a generous gift from Dr. and Mrs. Watson to create an annual opportunity to recognize a UT Southwestern faculty physician who exemplifies excellence in patient care and is a leader in advancing clinical innovations.

The Leaders in Clinical Excellence Awards honor exceptional contributions of clinical faculty – at any site of service – to the care of UTSW patients, to the education and training of the next generation of health care professionals, and to UT Southwestern overall.

“These awards are wonderful opportunities to acknowledge the expertise, commitment to innovation, and compassionate care delivered by UT Southwestern clinical faculty,” Dr. Podolsky said in his announcement. “That is especially true this year, as the COVID-19 pandemic has challenged our faculty, and indeed all health care workers, as never before – a challenge that has been met with an exceedingly high degree of professionalism, poise, and perseverance. Though not surprising, it is remarkable nonetheless.”

The Leaders in Clinical Excellence Award categories are:

• The Patricia and William L. Watson Jr., M.D. Award for Excellence in Clinical Medicine
• President’s Award for Diversity and Humanism in Clinical Care
• Institutional Service Award
• Mentoring Award
• Patient and Family Recognition Award
• Program Development Award
• Rising Star Award

Nominations will be accepted online through Monday, July 27, 2020.

 

Who can nominate?

All UT Southwestern faculty are invited to nominate for all seven awards – including the Watson Award.

Health System staff are invited to nominate faculty for three of the awards:

• President’s Award for Diversity and Humanism in Clinical Care
• Patient and Family Recognition Award
• Program Development Award
