Suzanne Truex: 25 years
Medical Illustrator
Neurological Surgery
First job at UTSW: I started working as a Medical Illustrator.
Best part of my job: Using my art in a meaningful way, depicting the beautiful anatomy of the brain. I also work with great people and get to watch first-class neurosurgeons in the OR.
How co-workers describe me: Quiet and introverted.
Surprising fact: I taught myself how to load and shoot my late Marine Corps veteran father’s M1 Garand (a military rifle from World War II and the Korean War era). I still have my right thumb, too; there is such a thing as an “M1 thumb.”
Unusual memory: About 20 years ago, a former faculty member’s album of presentation slides was accidentally taken out with the trash. He ended up going to the city dump to find it. I’ll never forget the stench when he returned with his soggy album swaddled like a baby.
