Judy F. Newell: 30 years
Registered Nurse
Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology
First UTSW job: I was hired as a Prenatal Genetic Nurse Counselor.
Best part of my job: As a fetal care coordinator, my goal is to help parents of babies who have been diagnosed with a fetal anomaly navigate through difficult times. I help coordinate visits, sonograms, and specialty tests, and make housing arrangements for some families.
Surprising fact: My first job as a nurse was in the lockup psychiatric ward at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.
Unusual memory: I was privileged to work with others in creating policies and procedures that allow parents with life-limiting fetal diagnoses the option of neonatal organ donation. This came about because of a request made by a very courageous and determined family. It was an honor to help make something good come out of something so devastating.
