Donna Matheou: 25 years
Registered Nurse II
William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, 11 North – Oncology
First UTSW job: I started working as an Oncology nurse in 1993.
Best part of my job: I really like making my patients feel special, like remembering that they like their coffee with two creams or a Coke on ice in the afternoon. I do these things so they know I really care.
How my co-workers describe me: My patients describe me as kind, calm, caring, and compassionate. I think my co-workers feel the same.
Surprising fact: I wore 6-inch platform shoes to high school every day, and my first car was a Gremlin with Levi’s seats!
Best memory: One of my best memories is decorating IV poles with the patients at Christmas. We used battery-operated twinkle lights, garland, and ornaments, with each patient trying to outdo the next. We laughed and it was fun!
Final note: I started working on the Oncology Unit right out of nursing school and have worked on the same unit for 25 years. I am an Oncology Certified Nurse, and I have won the Strauss Award and the Meritorious Service Award. I spend my time off entertaining the love of my life – my granddaughter, Ellie Jo.
