Angela R. Houston: 30 years
Administrative Manager
Obstetrics and Gynecology
First UTSW job: I was hired as Administrative Assistant in Microbiology in 1989.
Best part of my job: I have had the honor and privilege to work closely with some of the country’s most leading and esteemed scientists. Knowing that in some small way I helped contribute to their successful research programs is rewarding in itself.
How co-workers describe me: Affable and fair.
Unusual memory: My most unusual UT Southwestern memory is when I literally spent the night here working on a National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant that was due the next day. At that time, NIH required that you submit paper copies. Imagine having to make 10 color copies of a 200-page document at 2 in the morning! Like many principal investigators, they waited until the very last moment to finish polishing their application. As a result, the support staff hustled to assemble the final product. We must have used every piece of blank paper we could lay our hands on. After much sweat and some tears, the application was funded with continued support for the next 20 years. I can say that I earned my paycheck – and then some – on that day!
Surprising fact: I love music and to sing.
