UT Southwestern ranked top Texas hospital and among top 40 nationally in U.S. by Newsweek
UT Southwestern Medical Center is the top-ranked hospital in Texas in Newsweek’s inaugural Best Hospitals list. UT Southwestern is listed 34th nationally in the U.S. rankings by Newsweek and noted for care in more than 20 specialties, including neurology/neurosurgery, psychiatry, memory care (geriatrics), cardiology, pulmonology, radiation oncology, radiology, urology, diabetes and endocrinology, as well as anesthesiology, perioperative and pain medicine, dermatology, gastroenterology, general and visceral surgery, gynecology and obstetrics, ophthalmology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, otolaryngology, pediatrics, pediatric surgery and neonatology, plastic surgery, rheumatology, traumatology, orthopedics, and spine surgery.
“We are pleased to be included on this listing, as it reflects patient satisfaction levels, recognition from our medical peers, and the data-driven care we provide our patients,” said Dr. John Warner, Executive Vice President for Health System Affairs, which includes William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, Zale Lipshy University Hospital, and associated networks of clinics and outpatient services.
The Newsweek ranking comes atop previous accolades, including a listing as the No. 1-ranked hospital in Dallas-Fort Worth and national rankings among the top 50 programs in seven clinical specialty areas, according to U.S. News & World Report’s annual Best Hospitals listings. In addition to this latest health system recognition, UT Southwestern is recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top medical schools in the country, and UT Southwestern’s internal medicine residency program was ranked eighth in the nation by Doximity’s 2018-2019 Residency Navigator. On the research front, Nature Index listed UT Southwestern as the top institution in the world in the “healthcare” category for publishing high-quality scientific research. Recognition comes as UT Southwestern continues to expand access to its distinctive academic medicine through new facilities and partnerships that find innovative approaches to improving efficiencies and lowering the overall costs of care.
UT Southwestern’s facilities growth includes an existing $480 million expansion of its flagship Clements University Hospital that will add 300 beds to the existing 460, making it among the largest in the nation. Scheduled to open in 2020, a 12-story, third tower will serve as a clinical home for neurological care through the Peter O’Donnell Jr. Brain Institute, consolidated acute inpatient care services, additional operating rooms, interventional suites, expanded Emergency Department care, and two new parking structures. Two floors will also expand inpatient cancer care for UT Southwestern’s Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center, the only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in North Texas and one of just 50 in the nation.
