Dr. Sam Wang receives Promising Investigator Award

Dr. Sam Wang, an Assistant Professor of Surgery, has been recognized by the American College of Surgeons for his research on gastric, liver, and pancreatic cancers.
Dr. Wang will formally receive the Joan L. and Julius H. Jacobson II Promising Investigator Award (JPIA) in October when the American College of Surgeons holds its 2019 Clinical Congress in San Francisco.
The Jacobson Award, which comes with a grant, was established in 2004 with a gift from Joan L. and Dr. Julius H. Jacobson II, a general vascular surgeon known for his contributions to the development of microsurgery. It recognizes outstanding surgeons whose work promises to advance surgical knowledge, practice, and safety.
It is a great honor to have been selected for the Jacobson Award,
Dr. Wang said. This is a reflection of the great mentorship I have received in the lab from Dr. Hao Zhu here at UT Southwestern and Dr. Matthias Hebrok at the University of California, San Francisco.
Dr. Zhu works in the Children’s Medical Center Research Institute at UT Southwestern and is an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. He holds the Kern Wildenthal, M.D., Ph.D. Distinguished Professorship in Pediatric Research.
