Carlos E. Girod, M.D., Associate Vice President for Parkland Health at UT Southwestern and Professor of Internal Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, and Samir M. Parikh, M.D., a Professor of Internal Medicine and Pharmacology and Chief of the Division of Nephrology, have been elected for membership to the American Clinical and Climatological Association (ACCA).

The honorary society was created in 1884 by physicians and scientists to improve medical education, research, and practice. Its initial focus was tuberculosis treatment in a suitable climate. Since then, the group has expanded its interests to all aspects of medicine and specialties, while retaining a continuing interest in the influence of global climate changes on health and disease. Active membership is limited to 250 physicians in the U.S. and Canada.

Dr. Girod, a Distinguished Teaching Professor, joined the UTSW faculty in 1997. Dr. Parikh has received multiple honors for mentorship and for research, having led programs funded by organizations including the Doris Duke Foundation, the American Society of Nephrology, the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association, the Department of Defense, and the National Institutes of Health. He joined the faculty in 2021.
