Burn rehabilitation experts outline best treatments for post-burn itching

Physicians seek strategies to improve the quality of sleep in ICU, researchers report

UT Southwestern Medical Center is home to a premier Burn, Trauma and Critical Care Surgical Program, known for its seminal contributions to the field of burn and trauma care. More than 5,000 patients are admitted to the three dedicated trauma services at UT Southwestern every year, and the burn center admits more than 600 pediatric and adult patients each year. Our burn unit, which has a total of 30 beds, serves as the Regional Burn Unit for North Texas.

The Burn, Trauma and Critical Care Program’s goal is to return patients to their highest level of function by attending to their physical, psychological, social and vocational needs. To that end, UT Southwestern physicians engage in comprehensive consultations with a team of experts to discuss each patient’s condition and determine the best course of action for treatment.

Once a treatment program is determined, the medical center offers patients the most sophisticated technology and surgical techniques available.

Medical services include:

  • Management of shock and cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Respiratory failure
  • Multisystem organ failure
  • Sepsis
  • Central nervous system crisis
  • Cardiac failure
  • Transplantation
  • Amputation

Patients in our critical care department are often faced with life-changing circumstances. As a result, our dedication to providing expert and compassionate care makes an important difference in our patients’ treatment and can change their outlook on the future. UT Southwestern physicians show patients how they can achieve a renewed state of health they may have not thought possible.
