UT Southwestern Medical Center offers world-class, cutting-edge technology and techniques in the surgical replacement and reconstruction of the hip and knee joints.
Our orthopaedic surgeons were the first in the Dallas-Fort Worth area to use knee replacements designed for women. The thinner, narrower implants were approved by the FDA in mid-2006.
We treat more patients requiring complex knee and hip revision surgery than any other medical center in North Texas, and we offer innovative procedures, like minimally invasive muscle-sparing hip surgery and surface replacement joint preservation surgery.
The knee is the largest joint in the body and one of the most easily injured. When coupled with diseases such as arthritis, bursitis and lupus, the knee is a prime candidate for surgical repair. More than 450 knee replacement surgeries are performed at UT Southwestern every year. Our surgeons use time-tested protocols for surgical technique, pain management and rehabilitation.
UT Southwestern physicians also provide an array of other reconstructive procedures for the hip and the knee, including rotating knee, hip replacement and knee replacement, minimally invasive surgery, management of complications related to hip and knee replacement (infection, dislocation and mechanical breakage), reconstructive surgery following previous fractures, proximal tibia osteotomy and supracondylar femoral osteotomy and muscle-stabilizing amputations of lower extremities.
UT Southwestern’s physicians work with a team of specialists to create a comprehensive, personalized treatment plan. Our nurses; occupational, physical and recreational therapists; and social workers work closely with our orthopaedic surgeons to provide patients with a viable and successful rehabilitation after surgery. Our physicians will recommend a combination of rehabilitation therapy, medications, exercise and nutritional advice to maximize patients’ efforts toward regaining their range of motion for long-term recovery.
