Hearing specialist leads effort to craft first professional guidelines for earwax

UT Southwestern testing new hybrid hearing device combining advantages of hearing aids, implants

UT Southwestern Medical Center’s Ear Disorders/Otology Program offers expert and compassionate care for patients with congenital and adult hearing loss, ear infections and conditions such as Bell’s palsy and Meniere’s disease. The specialists in our program have extensive experience in the use of medical and surgical procedures to control benign and malignant tumors in the ear, and to treat conditions such as cholesteatomas and perilymph fistulas.

Our skilled physicians offer ear reconstruction surgery for individuals who have lost all or part of an ear in an accident, as well as for children who have been born without one or both ears. For other congenital hearing disorders, UT Southwestern offers cochlear implantation and specialized hearing aids to help patients gain increased awareness of sound.

UT Southwestern’s Ear Disorders/Otology Program provides treatment for chronic infections of the middle ear and mastoid, as well as treatments for infections in the external canal (swimmer’s ear). Our treatments for chronic infections of the middle ear and mastoid provide important benefits for helping to control and prevent damage to systems that regulate balance and hearing.

Our specialists work closely with patients to help them fully understand their diagnoses and evaluate their treatment options. By taking advantage of the latest advances in hearing technology, UT Southwestern physicians make an important difference in patients’ lives and improve their outlook on the future. Our specialists carefully monitor each patient’s progress and are committed to providing the support patients need to achieve outstanding results from their treatment for hearing disorders.
