UT Southwestern Medical Center’s Cosmetic Dermatology Program helps patients minimize or reverse damage to their skin caused by aging, sunlight and genetics. Our program offers the latest technology for skin rejuvenation and other cosmetic dermatology techniques. Physician team members have extensive training in each procedure.
Our specialists offer skin treatments and therapies for varicose veins, age spots, birthmarks, rosacea and unwanted hair.
Therapies we provide include:
- Botulinum toxin (Botox): Injection of botulinum toxin reduces facial lines caused by muscle movement. Botox also may be used to reduce excessive perspiration of the underarms, hands or feet.
- Chemical peels: Chemical peeling is a technique that improves the appearance of the skin. A chemical solution is applied to the outer, dead layer of skin to remove mature layers of skin cells to allow new skin to regenerate. The new skin is smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin, and also may be more even in color.
- Filler substances: Filler substances can be injected into the skin to fill depressed lines or scars, as well as to enhance the lips. Commonly used fillers include Restylane and collagen.
- Laser hair removal: Laser treatments can significantly reduce unwanted hair. Laser hair removal also is helpful in the treatment of pseudofolliculitis barbae (PFB). This condition is characterized by red bumps around hair follicles. These bumps are often made worse by shaving.
- Laser therapy: Dilated or visible blood vessels on the face may be the result of many factors, including sun exposure, genetics, skin type and rosacea. Laser therapy targets the blood cells in the vessel, causing it to shrink and, in many cases, disappear. We use laser therapy to treat rosacea, visible blood vessels, port wine stains and keloid scars. We also can perform Photo Dynamic Therapy for the treatment of acne.
- Microdermabrasion: Microdermabrasion involves the use of fine, abrasive particles to gently remove the outer, dead layer of skin cells. This procedure improves the texture of the skin and the penetration of topical creams and medications, and is helpful in the treatment of blackheads.
- Sclerotherapy: This technique is used to treat prominent or visible leg veins, known as spider veins. Most spider veins are treated with sclerotherapy, although some may be treated with a laser.
