UT Southwestern Medical Center's Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center offers melanoma patients some of the most advanced therapies available for the treatment of skin cancers, including basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and malignant melanoma. Our specialists are leading experts in the use of cryosurgery, laser surgery and Mohs surgery for the effective treatment of skin cancer. In addition, UT Southwestern’s medical, radiation and surgical oncologists are widely respected by their peers as leaders in the use of radiation, chemotherapy and surgery for the treatment of malignant melanoma.

Our melanoma program is actively involved in groundbreaking research into the causes and cures for all types of skin cancer. UT Southwestern is a major contributor to ongoing research sponsored by the John Wayne Cancer Institute, which is investigating how innovative therapies can prevent or delay the recurrence of skin cancer in high-risk patients.

The Melanoma Program at UT Southwestern effectively integrates research efforts into our clinical practice by employing a team of physicians to review the results of patients’ diagnoses and precisely determine the best treatment for a particular type of skin cancer. Our melanoma specialists will speak with patients about their treatment options and focus on them as unique individuals. In addition, patients with an individual or family history of skin cancer can take advantage of UT Southwestern’s melanoma specialists and state-of-the-art medical facilities to actively prevent the occurrence or recurrence of skin cancer.

The medical center’s clinical trials program gives patients access to treatments often unavailable at other health-care facilities. Depending on their specific condition and the type of skin cancer, UT Southwestern can offer patients therapies that show particular promise in treating their form of skin cancer years before they are offered to the public.
