UT Southwestern Medical Center's Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center offers lung cancer patients some of the most advanced therapies available in the nation. Our specialists are widely recognized as national experts in the use of chemotherapy, radiation and surgery for the treatment of lung cancer. They are national leaders in such clinical research organizations as the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group and the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group. 

We offer multi-disciplinary care involving medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and thoracic surgeons – working together with social workers, nutritionists and case coordinators – to provide a coordinated approach to patient care. Our clinical trials program gives patients access to new, cutting-edge therapies often unavailable at other health-care facilities.

UT Southwestern’s significant research efforts into the causes and cures for lung cancer have made it one of the premier centers in the nation. Our Lung Cancer Program is one of only seven in the nation to obtain a prestigious Specialized Program in Research Excellence (SPORE) grant from the National Cancer Institute. Discoveries in the laboratory are being translated daily into the clinic.

UT Southwestern’s researchers and clinicians are nationally recognized leaders in the development and use of radiation therapies to precisely target lung cancer tumors with an unprecedented level of precision and deliver the most effective radiation treatments available. These capabilities enable UT Southwestern’s specialists to more effectively plan, simulate, deliver and verify radiation treatments using state-of-the-art technology and techniques such as:

  • Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT)
  • Image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT)
  • Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT)
  • Brachytherapy – high-dose rate (HDR) and low-dose rate (LDR)
  • Combined-modality treatments
