UT Southwestern Medical Center’s mission is to offer its patients with blood cancers the best possible care available. Our Lymphoma, Leukemia and Myeloma Program at the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center specializes in all aspects of management of these hematologic malignancies, and UT Southwestern’s excellent clinical results ― with outcomes superior to national norms in several key areas of these malignancies ― are well known.
Research conducted at our hematopathology laboratory has led to new groundbreaking treatments of cancers of the lymph nodes, blood and bone marrow. UT Southwestern is privileged to have received accreditation from the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), which accredits bone marrow transplant programs that have achieved the highest levels of clinical and research practices.
Researchers now know there are many more subtypes of hematologic cancers than were originally believed. Since each of these subtypes behaves in its own particular way, each requires its own dedicated therapy. That is why an accurate diagnosis of each subtype of lymphoma, leukemia, myeloma or myelodysplasia is critical to patients.
UT Southwestern focuses on the comprehensive and accurate classification of patients’ cancer subtype, so that doctors can determine the best and most effective treatment.
Through advanced investigative techniques employing innovative technologies, hematologic oncologists, along with researchers in the Department of Pathology, work together to provide patients with the precise classification of each subtype. Then, by taking each individual circumstance into consideration, physicians devise a comprehensive treatment plan, which may include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, bone-marrow transplantation or other innovative experimental therapies.
UT Southwestern is committed to improving current therapies and developing new ones. It continues to conduct research bringing the latest advances from the laboratory to patients’ bedsides. With state-of-the-art facilities and highly experienced teams of experts, our Lymphoma, Leukemia and Myeloma Program has established an exceptional track record in carrying out these complex diagnoses, therapies and procedures, including bone marrow transplantation.
