Sleep and Breathing Disorders

According to the National Sleep Foundation, approximately 40 million Americans experience sleep disorders. UT Southwestern Medical Center’s Sleep and Breathing Disorders Center is among the most advanced in the nation at accurately diagnosing and effectively treating all types of sleep disorders, including insomnia, narcolepsy, parasomnias and snoring.

We also focus on pulmonary neuromuscular disorders such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, myotonic dystrophy, Duchenne's muscular dystrophy, post-polio syndrome, multiple sclerosis and scoliosis. We can offer these patients various assist devices to help them remain autonomous at home including:

  • Cough-assist devices
  • Intermittent positive-pressure breathing (IPPB)
  • Non-invasive ventilation and home ventilation
  • Pre-fabricated and custom fabricated masks to use with non-invasive ventilation, such as the strapless oral nasal interface mask (S.O.N.I. mask)
  • Other assist devices

At UT Southwestern Medical Center, we foster a broad-based approach to treating sleep and breathing disorders, bringing together patient care, teaching and research. We also combine specialists from pulmonary, neurology, psychiatry, pediatricshead and neck surgery, oral surgery, rehabilitation and psychology to offer comprehensive expertise and advanced medical resources.

Dedication to attentive and compassionate health care, combined with UT Southwestern’s state-of-the-art resources, provides patients with the most effective and caring treatment available for their sleep or breathing disorder.
