Radiation OncologyUT Southwestern Medical Center’s radiation oncology service has a long-standing reputation for excellence in specialized care. Our mission is to provide the highest quality radiation treatment and to complement other cancer specialties in a multidisciplinary cancer-care setting. Our faculty are experts in the use of a variety of state-of-the-art technologies to treat our patients. Among these technologies are one Elektra Synergy and three Varian linear accelerators with Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) capability. Through computer targeting, all deliver a high dose of radiation more precisely to a tumor, thus sparing surrounding healthy tissue. We also offer conventional 3D conformal radiotherapy, low- and high-dose rate brachytherapy, prostate seed implants and stereotactic radiosurgery, and radiotherapy with the Accuray CyberKnife Robotic Radiosurgery System and the Gamma Knife system. A dedicated computed tomography (CT) scanner and a large bore 4D CT scanner are used for precision radiation treatment planning, as images are imported into a computer used by the physician and dosimetrist to more clearly define a tumor and critical organs. Pediatric patients from Children’s Medical Center Dallas also receive treatment with these technologies. Our areas of expertise include:
UT Southwestern’s comprehensive medical resources enable patients to have an initial consultation, testing, follow-up visits and any needed medical procedures all in one location at the Moncrief Building. |
