The Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology is uniquely positioned within a world-class medical center.  This provides access to a wealth of clinical and research training opportunities that lead to a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. The Program, designed as a four-year training experience, has been accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) since 1986 and includes an affiliated clinical internship, also approved by the APA.

Our basic training philosophy reflects a clinician-researcher model of training which prepares individuals for the practice of clinical psychology, broadly conceived. The combined experience of both clinical and research settings reflects our clinician-researcher philosophy. Our model provides research training such that graduates pursuing more clinically oriented careers are prepared to critically evaluate scientific material while those interested in pursuing academic or research careers have a solid clinical foundation on which to build. Specific objectives of the program are for our students to:

  • have a broad and general knowledge of scientific psychology
  • have specialized knowledge and entry-level practice skills in clinical psychology
  • have the ability to develop, disseminate, and/or evaluate scientific knowledge directed toward understanding and improving human functioning
  • have knowledge of and adhere to the ethical and sensitive practice of professional psychology.
