Education & Training
The Department of Dermatology focuses on graduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education.
Residents in our Department have a tradition of passing the Certifying Examination of the American Board of Dermatology (ABD) and, in many cases, then entering well-regarded fellowship training programs or faculty positions at leading medical schools. Our Resident Class of 2016 scored at the 81st percentile on the ABD Certifying Exam; the class of 2017 scored at the 86th percentile.
Several of our residents who have pursued our Department's 2+2 Research Training Track have received support from UT Southwestern Medical Center’s Physician Scientist Training Program, UT Southwestern’s President’s Research Council, Galderma Pilot & Feasibility Awards, the Dermatology Foundation, the Amgen Corporation, the Dedman Foundation, and the Burroughs Wellcome Fund Career Award for Medical Scientists. These individuals have great significance to our Department.
Our Department offers Fellowship Training in Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology, Dermatopathology, and Pediatric Dermatology.
Several of our junior faculty have completed training in UT Southwestern’s Clinical Scholars Program, a commitment that has the potential to broaden and expand notably the knowledge, skills, and abilities of these and other academicians in our Department for many years to come.
The Department hosts weekly didactic educational sessions and Grand Rounds that are both regularly attended by our faculty, residents, and interested physicians from the community.
