Graduate Students

Graduate students are a vital part of the research in the Department of Molecular Genetics. In recent years graduate students have made important discoveries in areas as varied and important as Neimann-Pick disorder, cleft palate, and obesity. 

All faculty members in the Department of Molecular Genetics accept students in the UT Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences based on the students’ training and educational background and space availability in the faculty member’s laboratory. 

Molecular Genetics faculty also work with students in other departments and programs, including:

• Biological Chemistry
• Cell Regulation
• Genetics and Development
• Neuroscience
• Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP)

Graduate students typically rotate in two or three different laboratories before choosing a faculty member as a thesis mentor. Interested students may apply through the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

Postdoctoral Research

All faculty members in the Department of Molecular Genetics work with postdoctoral fellows on long-term projects. Much of the research is centered on cholesterol metabolism. 

Those interested in applying for a postdoctoral fellowship should email the faculty member they would like to work with and include a CV and a summary of their training and previous laboratory experience.
